9. The too good to be real comment
I actually enjoyed studying your site, you made number of helpful points. I want to bookmark your website. I addedyou to delicious and google favorites. I will try to come back to your post and explore more articles.
I could not resist. What a fabulous topic Ari. I enjoy getting philosophical re: blog comments. May I comment just because you happen to be a valued connection of mine? Do I really need a reason? Smiles in your direction.
IMHO – ED Hardy is very 3 years ago. Having this brand of jeans may not enhance your personality. It may actually lessen your overall creativity.
PS: File this blog comment under another category of vague please.
It’s a real brand of denim? Never heard of it.
Ari: Spammers will always exist no matter what we do. I receive the same comments, most of them being the generic comments you mentioned at 9. These seem to work best because, if you google one of these, you will find thousands approved. Too bad many bloggers don’t realize is just spam…
Patel
How to educate the ignorant?
It’s impossible. I’ve tried for years without success. The ignorant always revert back to being ignorant.
Would this be considered spam or just kiss butt?
By the way, I must admit that you are one of the best bloggers I ever seen in my entire life. Thanks for posting this informative and useful info.
I think it might just be an ignorant comment.
Anyway, I do thing you are the best blogger.
Oh, I love this post. I get SO MANY spam-type comments on my blog and it drives me nuts. I just went through 22 of them this morning. Ugh. I was nodding my head reading each one you listed, “yep, got that one, too!”
Meghan- I must be out of it… never heard of ED Hardy jeans.
Erin
You and me both.
What about the “Gibberish gibberish gibberish. V|aGRa cheap! Gibberish” comment? Where do these fit in?
Substitute Ed Hardy Jeans for Viagra.
I just had to read this one, Ari…compelling title.
This post has really made my Friday – a good lol time.
Number 9 is the one that I get most of.
There must be so many blogs around that allow this type of comment to be published …hence why the spammers do it.
Andrew
Hmm, now you make me wonder what blog post titles are not compelling… and how to ensure future ones gain your nose, too.
Ari,
I must admit I am getting bored of titles like ‘ top 10 ways to improve your traffic’ . Those ones used to entice me…but no more.
Andrew
P.S. I’m not saying I see those type of titles here – just a generic statement!
This type of comments are very general by spammers especially on related comment and the extra ordinary praise of the content.
They a times pass the spam filter but i delete them but yet you can’t just resist them.
Fun post ..
I wish I was silly copying them over, but I was completely serious.
I agree. Spam comments are so boring, and certainly Akismet is a friend when some of us have numerous blogs on a variety of subjects. Sometimes I have regretted I didn’t stick with ONE blog and just categories for all the different subjects – but the danger of that would have been that content couldn’t quite score all that well from a SEO perspective.
It feels as though spam comments have increased recently. I can’t quite see whether this is because new auto comment systems have come on the market, or if it’s simply a question of looking for loopholes where these guys can post their trash.
But do keep up the good work. It’s a pleasure to read your articles.
It’s a pleasure reading your comments… which are never boring.
wow.. glad to know I am not the only one. REALLY time-waster to get comments that are obviously spam or ones that show they don’t know what they are doing. Great one Ari!
You’re never alone.
BTW, the email address you comment with is not the one you tweet with or your avatar would be different.
Haha why do these all look oh too familiar Ari? Haha. Have you tried the GASP plugin yet? I just installed it yesterday it’s suppose to make the real comments get through and simply just ignore the spam.
I need a little more test time before I can say if it’s awesome or not.
Saw it mentioned briefly on Kikolani‘s blog, but didn’t explore further. Is it meant to substitute Akismet?
Wow, I really enjoy this post, so funny but realistic as well. But I wonder, should you actually define all of them are spammed comments.
The last one could be accepted or some misspelled comments too?
Spammers will do anything to have their comments posted, but thankfully not much of them get in now, do they? This is a funny and cool post here, Ari. It really make us wonder that maybe, just maybe, spammers are going to get more intelligent in the future and be able to do spamming better…Then, again, there would be better anti-spammers to pick them up
- Wes -
My favourite is comment no.3 It is like the spammer ask you to remove them. Haha
almost unbelievable – 84% of all comments are spam. Akismet is said to have captured over 19.18 billion spam comments and pings so far. Reference: http://akismet.com/stats/
The other day, I saw a forum with a section marked something like “Post blatant spam here….” – for real, and I bet many spammers do exactly that, counting on that section to be one place they won’t be removed.
Maybe that’s the solution to the spam blog comments – a cyber-equivalent to “put it in the Round File.”
Everyone has their own way just to get great number of traffic to their site. The above mentioned types of comments are really true. I get them most of the time but I don’t blame them for getting those on my comments, they just need to do what they think would help them. Good thing, there are plug-ins that moderate the comments for you.
I can’t help but laugh my ass off because these are all true! I admit that I did some of those things before when I was still new with this kind of stuff but now I always make it a point to say something that actually relates to the blog and make sure that I really read the article before commenting. I like this post and that’s for real
I know how you feel Ari, I have just got back of holiday from Tunisia, and I have had to dig through over 40 similar spam comments.
My question is why? Why do people bother?????
IMHO – ED Hardy is very 3 years ago. Having this brand of jeans may not enhance your personality. It may actually lessen your overall creativity.
PS: File this blog comment under another category of vague please.
I don’t know if this is spam or not, but there’s no URL attached so why not. LOL
Hi Ari! This was hilarious! I know you meant it to be serious, but too funny. I like the total kiss-ass comment, number 9. Nothing to do with the subject of matter, but always thinks you have the greatest ideas and then the ever so famous “great topic!” cracks me up.
Thanks for such a great post! Very informative! ; )
Nice topic. I’m into blogging also and I have encountered lots of spammers. As blogging is getting really popular nowadays, blog commenting is also becoming a very popular way to social interact. So are spammers, I guess. You can use blog commenting as a marketing strategy in many ways to your benefit but remember to commenting on relevant niche blogs.
I appreciate your post, thanks for sharing the post, i want to hear more about this in future.
Another valuable learning Ari. Anyway, I’ve also encountered similar comments in my sites and I guess they don’t have any plans (those spammers) to stop this hobby (spamming). I think we to deal with them as long as blogging exist. Thanks for sharing this out Ari. Keep going!
