I’m toying with downgrading instead and reverting to a basic cell phone — but I lack the motivation to do it.
I bought the BlackBerry in the fall of 2008 because I remember traveling to a government technology conference and sought the ability to check email from the road — as I didn’t want to tote my laptop. I now have a lightweight netbook for such events.
While it’s handy to surf the web and use different applications to check this or share that when not in a seated position in front of my computer, I don’t know if I’d miss the thing if I didn’t have it.
My dilemma is not about living a cellphone-free life but reducing the tendency to be electronically leashed to a 24/7 computer. There are more people without smartphones than with them, but I can’t think of anyone who’s done what I’m contemplating doing. Do you?
