Storey Ave Zoning Discussion

by Ari Herzog on December 5, 2011 · 2 comments

Responding to my motion to reconsider a failed vote to change the zoning of two residential parcels abutting Storey Avenue to business land, the city council’s planning and development committee shall meet with the planning board on Wednesday, December 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the council chamber to deliberate the pros and cons of the proposal.

I haven’t seen any proposal in writing.

I had intended to be at a state Department of Transportation hearing at Amesbury Middle School to discuss environmental matters surrounding the Whittier Bridge (details on that meeting is at the bridge’s website), but I’ll be at city hall instead to listen to what councilors, planning board members, and invited guests say and to ask questions. I have a lot of questions.

If you can’t make Wednesday’s meeting and would like to ask a question, post it in the comment section below. Thanks.

Other than the obvious joy to City Hall in receiving property tax from whomever owns the new building, what is the benefit of this construction and store for the residents of Newburyport? We’ve all seen this happen. Promises from the state to alleviate traffic choke points, alleviate construction issues, etc. I’ve never seen it work. That intersection and indeed the entire street from 95 past the Market Basket plaza is a mess already. This is a bad idea for everyone accept the developer and CVS.

CVS (or any other developer) hasn’t filed any paperwork with the planning department so where is the proof they want to move in?
