iPhone, uPhone, We All Scream For..

Have you heard the one about the 3-year-old and the iPhone?

The Boston Globe shares the following video report:

Call me a critic, but how is this news? Kids have always preferred flashy objects over dull ones. How is bubble wrap — the translucent-like film — anything but dull in comparison?

Perhaps the better analogy is giving a kid an iPhone with an application that builds sandcastles, then asking the kid to use a pail and a shovel at the beach. Guess which will be more dull?

I agree, you put anything flashy & interactive in front of a child, they will get stoked. They should have chose 5 year olds that were a little stronger for the experiment.

Agree, this is a stupid news report, but there is no doubt that kids love the iPhone. My 3 year old ask for it before bed to play Animal Farm or match game.

Must have been a slow news day for Boston Globe.

My 18 month old son has exactly the same reaction. He doesn’t know what he is doing, the phone just flashes and react to button he presses. But the put him on the beach and he goes just as mad for smashing sand castles.

Hey guys, i just wanted to say that as silly as some of these experiments are, we have to give to the kids of today and bow down to them for their grasp of technology don’t you think? i don’t mean being able to pop bubbles on an iPhone, i mean in general. That said, i have had a go on the same application and it is fun!!! Allan

Just seeing gadgets like the Iphone being so user friendly for even 3 year old, shows how far we’ve advanced. It’s nice to see the iphone being used as a learning device, and not just for incessant texting
and yaking. Good video!

I think they look fairly equally excited by both the actual bubble wrap and the iPhone app. What was the point of this test anyway? To show that kids find bubble wrap pretty boring whether it’s digital or real?
