Join Me and Stop Using Social Media

On behalf of Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr and charitable organizations in 40 countries that seek to raise funds and raise awareness about autism, I challenge you to stop using Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites on November 1, 2010.

I ask you to participate in the Communication Shutdown.

  1. I was thinking, thats never going to happen, and then I saw what it was for.

    Good idea.

Nor sure it will take off, but it will be very interesting if it does :)
Imagine Mark Zuckerberg’s face “So traffic report for today… 1/2 a billion?”
    “No sir, 0″
    “*!*?*!*”

  2. This is a very interesting campaign. I wish it the best of success. Autism is something that needs to have much greater social awareness.

  3. I do no know how many people will do this but if get them aware of autism then great. i had little understanding of it but two authors I have read had characters who had varying degrees of autism and it really gave me a fantastic understanding of what it was like for those people to cope with loving in a world were most people do not have it and have very little understanding. One of my favourites is The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.

  4. I wonder how effective these calls for “blackouts” are for technology, Internet, Social Media and shutting off power in the home. I know that it is fairly easy to do no SocialMedia whatsoever for a few days, when I go on vacation I leave all social media and Internet behind, but with my sites autoposting it would appear I was using social media even though I was not.

  5. Facebook and other such things are time wasters, and actually decrease productivity. People who participate in the internet shutdown will actually get more work done.

Let’s wait November 1 and see what happens.
