4 Satisfying Videos to Watch

Reflecting upon the initial success of yesterday’s debut of Satisfying Saturdays, I thought it would be neat to create a comparable roundup series for Sundays. With this post, I commence Showcase Sunday today with a series of embedded videos you might enjoy watching.

Like the Saturday roundup which is based upon blogs and websites I read and like each week, these videos will be those I watch during the week. The caveat to embedded videos is they may disappear at any moment so watch them while you can!

(If you’re reading this on a mobile device or in email, you probably want to visit my article directly.)

Ataque de Panico! is the title of a 4-minute Uruguayan film costing $300 to produce despite Lucasfilm-quality visual effects and the coordination of hundreds of actors. It was uploaded to YouTube six days ago; and has since been viewed over 3.7 million times in the wake of the BBC and Mashable reporting the South American director accepted $30 million for Hollywood blockbuster director Sam Raimi to direct it big picture style. If you haven’t seen this yet, do watch it — for you will be stunned.

Pop goes a volcano in an extravagant show of smoke and fog erupting 4,000 feet below the Pacific Ocean. Our friends at CNN provide background to the unique undersea eruption, and the U.S. government-funded robotic submarine snapped pictures and this video. Mesmerizing!

Cannonbells is a demonstration by Intel’s Finland office showing five cannons, five chimes, and five engineers. The staff members are shot out of the cannons, fly through the air, and bong their helmets on the chimes to produce the company’s trademark jingle. I haven’t seen anything like this outside of Japanese stunt-like TV game shows. Hat tip to Lewis Shepherd for profiling technology firms thinking outside the box.

…and for a different tack on education, here’s Loic Le Meur’s interview of Gary Vaynerchuk from the recent LeWeb conference in France. Please note that one of George Carlin’s seven dirty words is repeated a lot, so don’t play this in the presence of young children or if obscenity offends you:

What did you think?

Check back next week for a second selection of showcase videos!

Hey Ari.

Good deal here. I had seen that Leweb video with good old Gary, and I sure like that he continues to challenge those practices that aren’t about the audience, fans, and customers. He remains unsatisfied, and this is a good quality for us to put out as well.

That five chimes demonstration is pretty action-packed. It’s cool to see.

That first one, made in Uruguay, sure does have some movie-like qualities to it. The multiple-missiles-from-the-hands effect is advanced-looking.

Cool showcase.

Ok, the volcano one I found quite intriguing. Was it that they were observing the volcano all the time and so they naturally caught it on film? Or is it that they somehow knew that the volcano was going to erupt and so got their camera equipment ready for the show? That aside, I didn’t realise there were volcanoes underwater. It could be quite disconcerting to be on a cruise ship over an area that’s about to erupt.

Interesting video selections. I like how you break up the links one day, and the videos next. Especially since Sunday is the day of relaxation, and what a better way to relax than watching some Youtube.

How in the world is it possible to create “Ataque de Panico!” for $300.00 US??? It is an incredible little video, but any first-year film student will tell you that the production values are waaay too high for this to cost a penny less than $5,000.00 US. This feels like hype/marketing for the upcoming big budget movie. Very enjoyable nevertheless!
