Take a Break From Blogging

If you are writing a new blog post, stop it.

Stop sign

Take a break.

Your unfinished post will be there when you return.

Your fans will be there, too.

Breathe.

Remind yourself why you created the blog.

Ensure the blog is tied to your mission.

Remember why people read what you write.

Remember what they write when they add comments.

Read the unfinished post again.

Edit.

Don’t publish it yet.

Breathe again.

Then… when you’re ready, escape.

Everyone escapes.

Only you will know when it is time.

Your fans will be there when you return.

  1. Nice advice…just don’t have too much of a break…you may not want to return!

    Andrew

  2. Very true Ari.

I have recently had a rather long break from my tech blog, but I am back and posting again, after a month off!

  3. I agree. Too much work is not good. We need to escape once in awhile to know what’s happening around us and the reason why we are doing what we do. It’s basically giving yourself a time to just be yourself and relax. No pressure,no work(for the meantime) and just breath. This one’s cool.

  4. A break!! I can’t even imagine a break from blogging!!

    • Its very important to have a break, it helps to relieve writers block. It also helps your health, as its not a fantastic idea to blog all day!

Prioritise the things in your life – ironically this is the title of my latest philosophy article, why not try reading it Saksham.

  5. Good “poke” to remind us to keep things in perspective. Besides, the crops need harvesting.

  6. Another excellent post, I am really enjoying reading your posts and the guest posts, what you have here is great information for new bloggers, I am finding it is really helping me find my feet in blogging, to stay focused but not get too over involved in details. Focus is really important, I have learnt that after owning a business (not this one) for 10 years as as we could do almost everything, no-one knew what were about! 10 years and locals found it too hard to promote us, so we are now refocusing and about to relaunch soon but focusing on our core values and products.

  7. In the past few weeks, I’ve kinda reduced the rate @ which I update my blog (for health reasons) but truth be told I’m kinda scared of going days without updating for fear that my regular readers might tune out and stop visiting/reading my blog.

  8. Hi Ari,
I do this often. I take breaks not only from blogging but also from the online world as a whole. It helps keep me grounded and centered. I think spending too much time online is not good for our physical and emotional health.
    All the best,
    Eren
