You may have heard that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and a who’s who of public health officials encourage us to wear “cloth face coverings” (such as masks) when entering settings where social distancing is hard to maintain. Think about grocery stores, pharmacies, post offices, or simply being outdoors walking by homes or on popular paths.
Where can you buy a mask?
There are three directions to go.
First: Many self-employed designers and small shops are selling masks, bandanas, and other face coverings on Etsy. Do a quick search to see what’s available. Here’s a Twitter list of more. Many are sharing patterns and designs.
Second: Here is a link to a spreadsheet of groups and collectives across the country that are sewing and selling masks to meet regional and national demand. Many are also looking for people to join them in the crusade.
Third: Scroll below for a list of companies throughout the United States with websites and capacity to produce and sell masks in larger quantities. Some of the companies on this list are big clothing brands with factories around the world. Others are small boutiques. For most of them, their primary product line does not include masks; but they are nevertheless producing and selling them.
Revenue appears to be secondary, as many firms are donating masks for every purchase; and some are donating your payment. From cloth coverings to thicker polyester fabrics, you may notice that some designs are sold out and you may need to wait until more are produced.
Each company is listed under the U.S. state of its headquarters. Click the company name to see pictures of masks, models wearing them, and specs.
