Blog Action Day started in 2007 with a simple mission: ask global bloggers to write about the same topic on the same day. October 15 was selected and thousands of bloggers answered the call.
The movement was born.
I first heard about BAD in 2008 — and participated by writing about poverty.
I had started my blog the prior year and it was both an exhilarating and emotional sensation to be part of something much larger than my own existence on this planet. I had known that thousands of other bloggers were also writing or otherwise sharing something about poverty and it was so damned special to add my own voice.
#BAD12 is about the power of we. The official website indicates 1,877 bloggers (and counting) from 108 countries and writing in 43 different languages. The #PowerOfWe is alive for its fifth year.
I am sure there are scores of participants writing more provocative topics than how we come together on BAD. I encourage you to discover them and read their voices.
It is awesome we come together today.
