When you have a small business and promote yourself on 20 social networking sites, you are using social media poorly.
Three is a good number.
Five or six is manageable.
But 20 is too much. It’s too much work for you to keep up with without automating functions and it’s too many choices for your customers to decide where to interact.
Do you disagree?
I agree. Not only is it too much for the visitor to keep up with, it is bound to be too much for the website owner to keep up with. I would say, choose the two or three social arenas where you can keep up – and stick to those.
G+, Twitter, Facebook are the choices that come to my mind.
I agree totally. I would pick the 3 social sites/networks where your targeted audience can most often be found. Even trying to build and manage relationships on 3 sites can be difficult, especially if you’re only devoting part of your work day (doing it in addition to your normal daily tasks).
Oh I agree completely. I think you should pick a focused group and stick with it. Also the biggest problem I have seen is when you have a profile and a page that you constantly have to interact with and keep updated. I think it is easier just to have a profile and be yourself on your profile and not have a public facing page… Unless of course you have a business brand that you want a page for…
