Tracing the Evolution of a Blog

I didn’t always write about media and marketing.

Cartoon of man by window waiting for ideas to blog about

Perusing my older stuff from 2007 and 2008, diversity is a good term to describe my blogging style. I wrote about apartment life, the weather, animals, food, music, and sustainable development.

Over the course of a few months in mid-2008, I began interspersing my personal thoughts with content people enjoyed reading, liking, and commenting. A sample that stick out:

Foray into iTunes Music Store
Insects Talk via Plant Telephone

The progression of the above has led this blog to where it is today.

It seems like you went from writing personal stuff to slowly detaching yourself from that and writing only about non-personal things. I know blogs are definitely not just online diaries anymore, but yours seems like it started out that way. NOT that that’s a bad thing!

Write what you enjoy writing about. People will enjoy reading about it. You will be successful :-)

That just about sums it up Christopher. I think that in order to attract a following, you have to be passionate about your subject. Good stuff!

Passion, that’s the word!

I love this! My first blog started out the same way: it was just personal stuff, an online diary I kept for many, many years. Made a few friends along the way, too, through commenting and getting to know other bloggers. But I like how your blog slowly morphed as you gave people more of what they wanted and were open to change.

Thanks for showing the progression of a fantastic blog!

This is great stuff Ari. It is pretty cool to be able to see your old writing style and what you used to blog about. I was looking through your list of old content and this stuck out “Let’s Blog About Sex”, I really like that title. Keep posting great content.

It is always good to look back and assess how we started, Ari. Through this, we will be able to see whether there is progress or none. With you, I think Chris summed it up nicely. Your blog is what it is now because you have the passion in sharing things to others right from the start and it will always be there no matter what you write about. :)

Hi Ari,

Looking at your list, I can see that from just random ramblings you have progressed into a more marketing style of writing blogs which is really good.
