Phil Baumann says it best: Facebook, Twitter, and every other social media site out there are addictive.
That’s why I decided to take a break from the big two, announcing my sabbatical last month without defining any duration.
During my roadtrip last week through six states, I visited many new cities and watched the interactions and behaviors between many people. I wrote in my journal every day, and discovered as much about myself as the places and people I saw. I spent the week without the internet and without my BlackBerry. With a prepaid phone plan and a basic phone that only a few people knew the number of, I enjoyed a week in quiet and without technological distraction.
It took a physical journey of self-discovery for me to recognize I don’t need to announce what I choose to do; I should just do it.
