Inside Look at Facebook Privacy Settings

by Ari Herzog on Jan. 27, 2011 · 6 comments

Taking a collective cue from John Haydon, Sarah Cortes, and Steve Garfield that ScreenFlow is the best Macintosh tool for creating videos that integrate both a head shot and a computer window at the same time, I installed a trial version of the software and tested it.

Satisfied, I bought it.

I then created the following video (which I uploaded to YouTube here) showing how I implement the myriad of Facebook privacy settings.

Please watch this and share it with your friends and colleagues (and I apologize it is lengthier than I anticipated) for an educational how-to on Facebook privacy.

If you liked it, and if you use Facebook, you can like me there at facebook.com/ariherzog.com.

Thanks!

Hey Ari,

A great post! Sure, there’s no big deal about tweaking Facebook privacy but I liked the way you delivered it much! Seriously, have you ever thought of creating a subdivision of ariherzog.com that would serve as a video blog? Although I don’t use a Mac, I liked the way ScreenFlow works – will suggest it to my Mac-friends :)

P.S. It may cost one an arm and a leg to find such software for Linux :D

Facebook privacy settings are just so complicated, and once you think you figure it all out, they add a wrinkle or 2 to the mix.

I got rid of my FB acct awhile ago – I just can’t risk having unflattering photos be posted of me, revealing stuff posted on my wall… and having employers find out and fire me. I rather stick to face to face socializing.

A lot of people will appreciate this tutorial, Ari. Although millions of people are using Facebook worldwide, not many of them actually knows the importance or relevance of the privacy settings. Your tutorial will teach them a lot. Good work! :)

Thanks, I’ve since created a follow-up about the Facebook New Messages application. I created this video as I activated it. I anticipate more videos over the coming months, some will be added here; but I suggest heading to my youtube channel and subscribing there to follow each one. I also am updating them to my facebook page.

But, anyway, Wes, thanks!

Great concept, both the video and the short encouragement to just try new things. Way to go, posting and pointing back to you on my site, sir. – thanks
