Meet Kristi and Her Key to Blog Promotion

Cover of Blog Post Promotion GuideExperienced blog publishers recognize that popularity and traffic come over time. When you build a blog for the first time, nobody will know about its existence unless you tell them. Once you tell someone, tell the person again. And again. And again. If you send a tweet or share a link about your new blog post, wait some time and do it again.

The key to bringing traffic to your blog is in effective and repetitive promotion.

Kristi Hines, the author of Kikolani (a blog that I have enjoyed reading for about two years), understands the relationship between publishing a blog post and promoting it — and she wrote an electronic book about the subject. This is her first book. Being electronic and being her own proofreader and publisher, there are some grammatical typos but they don’t distract from the subject at hand. You may not even notice them. You will notice her promotional tips. Kristi knows her subject well, for she is preacher and practitioner. I bought her ebook and perused through its 71 pages over a few hours. I will read her tips in more detail over the coming days.

Here is one of her Twitter promotion tips on page 27:

You know those direct messages that you might be ignoring due to spam? Stop ignoring them. Once you start building followers, you might start getting requests through your direct messages. I have a nice list of users who regularly ask me for votes on social sites or retweets, and I generally accommodate them, assuming it is a good article. I also keep their usernames in a text file list for future reference as people I can count on for a little social promotion.

From promoting your blog post on Facebook pages, Twitter chats, and LinkedIn groups; to sharing your post links as part of a more elaborate response on LinkedIn Answers, Yahoo Answers, and Quora; to reasons why your blog might need a mailing list; to tips to share links across email and instant messaging; to tracking the effectiveness of blog posts and the links promoting them through PostRank and Google Analytics — Kristi covers everything. She does not disappoint.

I wrote about Kristi one year ago when she single-handedly introduced me to 15 bloggers and readers in her community and I am writing about the goddess again right now. The $27 introductory price of the ebook lasts through March 8, after which it increases. I don’t know what you will do, but if you trust me and if you believe you need to improve yourself, click over and buy her book here.

Not a bad price, and considering it is supposed to be national ‘read an e-book’ week then I think this might be a good place to start!

I know I don’t use that many social networking sites, but this could be a good way to help me learn :-)

To be fair, Christopher, you won’t learn how to use social networking sites — as much as how to leverage them to promote blog posts.

Hi Christopher,

I don’t cover the actual setup and use of social networking sites in my eBook, but I do cover, once they are setup, how to build a targeted network on the major three (Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn). :)

Ari, I bought Kristi’s e-book the morning it came out. It’s full of great advice, and I’m already using her specific suggestions for increasing Twitter traffic to my blog posts.

She writes well and clearly, so the information flows easily.

You know the old saying: “If you find even one piece of advice that saves you time or helps your business, it’s more than worth the $XX you paid.” It’s definitely true here. People of all levels of sophistication will find useful info to apply now, and there will be more information to apply as they go deeper into social media and blogging over time.

Thanks John! I hope that people find a lot of good value in my book, and I know what you mean. There have been several eBooks that I just got one tip out of, but that one tip more than covered the purchase price once I utilized it!

Kristi –

You got me, too — just bought it. I might have thought about this for a long time and maybe walked away, if it hadn’t been for Ari’s glowing review.

Looking forward to digging into this.

Hi Ari!

This is an amazing review. I always love hearing about authors that are walking their talk and are experts in getting results as well as doing their research.

I’m kinda sad I won’t be able to get Kristi’s book (even at the introductory price), but I’m a frequent visitor to her blog and can at least make the most of what I find there. If her book is the same awesome quality of her blog, which I imagine it is, then it’s a surefire mind-blower!

I’ve just read an article about this book of Kristi Hines written by Kiesha Easley (I guess I’m really destined to purchase this book). And as from what I’ve read so far, it seems that the book is really great, plus I’ve been reading at Kikolani before, though I didn’t know that she had launched her own product. Will do check this book out.
