Who is Ari Herzog to You?

Musing about life in this picture.

Chalk this up to a marketing experiment if you insist, though I view this question as central to the blog content I read and write. While I know what inspires me to read, comment, share, and talk about the content and authors of other blogs I read, I have no idea why you choose to read this sentence.

It’s a mystery to me.

What words, phrases, concepts, sentiments, or emotions come to mind when you hear or read my name, or when you read something I write, or when someone mentions my name?

Who am I to you?

How do I delight you? What do I represent to you?

Be honest, be yourself, and bring it on…

Ari Herzog is the blogger I found when I wondered about One True Fan (he tried it and didn’t like it). I continue to read because here I learn about the nuts and bolts of blogging.

This ‘garden blog from South Africa’ already had a link back to Ari in my post scheduled for Monday.
Diana of EE. One of the 17, but in the Other 12 ;~)

Why do you like OTF? I just put it at the site bottom just for you — but time will tell how long it is there.

Elephant's Eye February 28, 2011 at 4:12 PM

Uh uh, NOT for me!!

There was a glowing advertorial and interview with the founder on Blogger Buzz , and I trawled the internet to see what someone who knows, thought about it.

You had it up for what, a few weeks? And I haven’t seen it on other blogs. Consensus seems to be No Thanks!

Ari Herzog February 28, 2011 at 4:22 PM

I learned about OTF last fall when Louis Gray wrote about why he loved it so I figured I’d try it here.

I thought you wanted it. Misread your intent. Gotcha.

Elephant's Eye February 28, 2011 at 4:34 PM

I read Louis Gray and yours then, and your blog is the one I’m still reading …

Ari Herzog is the guy whom I follow for tips on social media strategies

Keith Davis@Public Speaking and Presentation Skills February 27, 2011 at 1:25 PM

OK Ari
Honest comment…
Started commenting on AriH because you are a PR 4 blog with dofollow links.
Terrible confession.

Then…
I got involved with the interaction. Lots of bits and pieces that interested me… forgot all about why I started commenting on AriH.

In answer to your questions…

“Who am I to you?”
A big time blogger known by many and who can’t spell Harry. LOL.

“How do I delight you? What do I represent to you?”
Every post is a one off.
No pattern, no connection, but all blogging related and all interesting.
You represent a successful blogger who is willing to share information.

Christopher Roberts@Philosophy Blog February 28, 2011 at 4:52 AM

Kieth, I hate to say it, but I am sort of similar.

Number one reason was that I found your site very educating – and I still do.

I commented originally like Kieth said, for dofollow links.

Why do I comment now? To get my point across, to express my opinion, to let you know why I think what you have said is right or wrong.

One of the first posts I read, if not the first post was “16 Video Critiques on Blog Content and Layout” I loved it, and I stuck around ever since :-)

I love the diversity here Ari, so much to read, so much quality over such a broad range.

I read to educate me. I comment to express myself. I link to my site/blogs to get dofollow links.

That’s me about you Ari.

1 simple idea for you here Ari, why not do a post the opposite of this, you about me… well not just me, us.

Could Ari Herzog write about Christopher Roberts, Kieth Davis, Diana, Joy Mystic, Wes, Brandon Yanofsky, Danny Brown, Dennis Edell, and all the other regulars?

You have asked us what we think about you, but what do you think about us?

Ari Herzog February 28, 2011 at 2:39 PM

Could I, Christopher? Sure.

Will I? No, for the simple reason that my telling the world what I think about specific people is something that other people would not want to read.

Christopher Roberts February 28, 2011 at 3:13 PM

Why? I would love to read what you think about Kieth Davis. Do you visit his blog? Are his comments valid? What about Danny Brown, nice avatar? Do you subscribe via email? Do you look out especially for comments by Diana from EE? Have your commenters changed over time?

Not an article necessarily about Brandon Yanofsky, Danny Brown and Dennis Edell, etc. but an article about US. Do you value your community? Why? Why don’t you value my negative comments? Do you prefer the comments on articles about Twitter? What do you like to write about to stir up a debate?

Just an idea Ari, sorry if I seemed a bit pushy :-P
Christopher

Ari Herzog February 28, 2011 at 2:36 PM

How can you suggest there is no connection? Is not the connection to the social web enough? Or, do you seek more specificity?

Keith Davis@Public Speaking and Presentation Skills March 1, 2011 at 2:11 PM

Ari – I’m more than happy with content of posts.

It was my ignorance that missed the connection, not the quality or clarity of the posts.

BTW – this is the post that has your site down as a PR 5 site with dofollow links…

Ari Herzog March 1, 2011 at 3:00 PM

It likely was a PR5 once upon a time, but is a PR4 now (because I shifted domains last month). But you know what, Keith? It’s not important to me.

Many things come to mind Ari: smart guy, passionate, no bullshit, public servant, social media thought leader, engager, person who quits social media platforms, experimenter, out of the box thinker …

All that came to mind today : )

Ari Herzog April 14, 2011 at 2:04 PM

When you combine public service and social media thought leadership in your head, Mark, is there a convergent word or series of words? In the frame of the (current) tagline in this blog’s header, Writing about public policy, communications, and the social web, how would you change it (if you would change it) to better explain that combination?

Anna February 27, 2011 at 3:39 PM

Completely agree with the previous man – I found your post on some other blog and used the link to visit your own blog, I started reading, commenting.
What are you for me? A great blogger who writes catchy posts that make me think and express my point of view. I like the humor that sometimes appear :)

In all honesty Ari – I’m gonna’ have to come back and answer that one at a later time. I’m still slowly getting to know you – mostly through your comments over at Danny’s and now through a few of your posts here.

Do I like what I see? Absolutely!
What can I tell so far? You tell it like it is – no bullshit. You’re smart as hell and will call someone out without hesitation. You seem very bold – but with tons of insight to back up whatever you put out there. You’re obviously a thought leaders and people (from what I can tell) respect your input.

Contrary to some – I don’t give a crap about do follows (I don’t even know what blogs are or aren’t) and PR rankings – I actually don’t have the toolbar installed on Chrome – so besides your Alexa, I don’t know much else. I have it on Mozilla though but again – it’s usually turned off. I had to have someone tell me that my PR rank had gone up lol.

If I like you, and I enjoy reading and learning what you have to share, then I’ll be here – that’s all there is to it!

That’s all I got for ya right now – but like I said – it’s just a matter of time before I have a small handle on you, your style and online personality – which I presume is close or the same as your real life one ;) .

Either way – I’ll be back for some more Ari Herzog!
A pleasure to be here sir.

Have a good week.
Cheers

Ari Herzog for me is a guy with principles and ethics that is good at what he does. You are one of the few who takes the time out to thank people for RTs and I appreciate that. Although, like Keith, I came here because of it’s being a dofollow blog, I stayed on because you give out information in a way that I can’t from others. Succinct but meaty all the time.

Who is Ari Herzog to me?

Nothing profound, here, I’m afraid — you’re my go-to for using social media, and you enjoy my writing enough to have invited me to guest post here.

I don’t live in Massachusetts so, frankly, I don’t think much about your city council position. Though the time may come when I’d want to get your input should I want to approach my own city council for whatever reason, and I’d respect your input.

When I think about Ari Herzog, an image of a Stylish Blogger came into my mind. You are a very successful Blogger of Blog Sphere and your blog is also a well reputed blog so I actually came here on your blog to learn Blogging.

LoveChic March 2, 2011 at 3:45 AM

You are a good blogger and your articles evoke discussion and loads of comments. They are informative and you provide your vision of the problems even if this vision sometimes goes against (at least at some points) with other bloggers’ vision.

Ari is an interesting mix. He seems like he wants to get on in life and he is a city councillor – but he spends time on this social media stuff – almost like he is working on a thesis or something. He’s pretty engaging, and apart from when he junked all his Twitter followers, he has been loyal in the sense that he treats people well and fairly.

I think his greatest asset in Social Media is that he is not afraid to tackle things that some others back off of saying.

I think I must have heard him on a podcast or something, because unlike a lot of people I read, I can actually hear his voice as I read the stuff he writes.
